Hi! It's been a really busy summer of work this one, but I've always managed to find time to ride. I go every week on a Wednesday to JSE where I've been riding Bruno in jump clinics, he's a great jumper and a bit of a softy! I have a great time every week, even if there is the odd tumble off! I look forward to meeting you all in September when you can join in the fun, thanks Dean
This summer my mare had her foal on July 18th and I've basically just been visiting her and the foal a couple times a week (cos they're fairly far away), he's a sweet little chestnut colt. I also had a ride with Elena when I visited her in Leicestershire and we cantered around some fields together, I'll send you a couple of photos of the foal!
I have been riding quite a lot over the summer - nearly every day! I ride my mum’s horse – the lovely Leo, pictured NOT wanting to come in from the field for a jumping lesson - and a friend’s horse – Benjamin, pictured with me riding him in our fields! I was also really lucky to be able to go and visit my old horse (The Chestnut, called Basil), who I unfortunately had to sell just over a year ago, and it was so nice to see him again! One of the best things about being in UMEC is that you make such good friends - Harriet (who is also on the committee) came to visit me and we went riding together which was fab!
B Team (home show): individual 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 8th and overall 1st

B Team (Sheffield): individual 1st and 4th and overall 1st
Both teams have qualified for regionals!
It's been an amazing semester so far at the yard, so many new members and horses! Our 2015 teams have won every competition so far and the socials have been a huge success, what better way to celebrate victory. Even though we only have a couple of weeks left there's still plenty on: tomorrow is our A team home comp and charity day, and then we have the AU ball and our Christmas week as well as a club meal. If you missed out on this semester don't worry about it, we accept new members all year round so you can still come along at the start of next year!!
Last week we had our first UMEC trip, planned by our trips and events secretary Lauren, to Horse of the Year Show 2015 in Birmingham! We saw International show jumping, Great Britain Vaulters and the Met Police Horses jumping through hoops of fire and taking off their saddles whilst cantering… Its safe to say it was a fab day! Lauren is currently in the process of sorting another event in the near future so we will keep you all updated on this and all UMEC members are invited on all of our trips!
Hi, I'm Alice! I was Kit Sec last year and now I'm out in America for 8 weeks, for a second summer as a camp counsellor at Camp Kern, Ohio.
Camp Kern is an overnight camp for 5- 16 year olds, with equestrian programs for children of all riding abilities. So far, I've been doing everything from teaching 7 year olds to groom, tack and trot for the first time to leading an advanced group in jumping and horsey first aid. We even got the chance to go to Kentucky Horse Park to visit the state's mounted police and look round the grounds that host the Kentucky Derby and 3 Day Eventing.
The barn has around 50 horses, with a couple of mules thrown in too- imagine trying to get all the herd fed at 6am, not easy!! Luckily so far this summer, we haven't had any major incidents, just a few trodden toes and some sunburnt ponies but taking picnic trail rides definitely cancel out all the bad.
Hope everyone's having an amazing summer, can't wait to come visit the UMEC family soon!
Come and see us at the Welcome Week Fair to sign up for any information on the club. ANYONE with an interest in horse riding from beginners through to our competitive teams should come along and have a chat! Just come and ask anyone in johdpurs!
